Established in 1958, Hongqi—meaning “Red Flag”—is China’s oldest and most prestigious automotive marque, historically reserved for high-ranking government officials and visiting dignitaries. The brand has long been a symbol of national pride and technological advancement.

Hongqi’s flagship model, the L5, is renowned for its neo-retro design inspired by the classic CA770 and is considered the most expensive Chinese-made car, and is said to be priced at approximately US$800,000. This model has been used by President Xi Jinping during state visits, including his 2014 trip to New Zealand, marking a shift towards promoting Chinese-made vehicles for official use.

In recent years, President Xi has been seen using the Hongqi N701, a heavily armored limousine equipped with advanced security features, including anti-rocket armor and protection against chemical and biological threats. The N701 is not available to the public and is reserved exclusively for China’s top leadership.

By introducing models like the EH7 and EHS7 to the Philippine market, Hongqi continues to expand its global footprint, offering consumers a taste of the luxury and innovation that has made it a symbol of prestige in China.
