Honda Civic Hybrid named 2025 North American Car of the Year

Ronald Rey M. de los Reyes

The Honda Civic Hybrid was recently recognized as the 2025 North American Car of the Year as it garnered a total of 205 votes. This was announced during the press conference of the media day of the Detroit Auto Show, held at the Huntington Place Convention Center in Michigan, last January 10, 2025

This is the fourth time that the iconic nameplate was bestowed the prestigious award by one of the longest-running new-vehicle awards in North America not associated with a single publication, website, radio or television station. The other years that the Honda Civic won were in 2006, 2016 and 2022, making it one of the most decorated vehicles of all time.

For 30 years now, the North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY) Awards honor excellence in innovation, design, safety, performance, technology, user experience, driver satisfaction and value. The process of selecting the Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year begins with a “long list” that is tested and evaluated by 50 professional automotive journalists from the United States and Canada who work for and contribute to independent print, online, TV and radio stations.

According to one of the jurors, John Voelcker, who is also a Contributing Editor for Car and Driver, Green Car Reports, and Inside EVs:
