Love is sweeter the second time around as they say. The same goes for Nissan’s second-generation Livina compact MPV which finally broke cover after being launched ahead in Indonesia way back in 2019, the Livina’s biggest market.
Manufactured in Cikarang, West Java in Indonesia, the Nissan Livina shares its platform with the Mitsubishi Xpander, forming part of the Global Alliance with Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi.
Gone is the low-slung station wagon body-style as it now replaced by an all-riding cross-over like platform which is more suitable for our road and weather conditions. The Livina’s key differentiating factors are the exterior stying, headlined by the brand’s V-Motion front grill, its aggressive front under-spoiler and the brand’s signature LED tail lamps, along with daytime running lights.
There is a modest redesign to accommodate the front end with new front fenders, new front doors and a reworked rear tailgate with matching rear bumper.
The range-topping VL AT variant comes with silver accents while the rest of the four model line-up gets black trim. The Livina enters the growing compact MPV segment which is perfect for families that need to grow out of a traditional B-segment sedan that need more space and versatility but cannot immediately jump to the popular 7-seat SUV or mid-size MPV segment, offering a perfectly capable daily-driver.
The all-new Livina also comes with Nissan Intelligent Mobility and various safety features which includes Hill-Start Assist, reverse camera multiple airbags, anti-lock brakes, traction/stability control and parking sensors, making it a very safe and convenient vehicle more than easily driven by first-time drivers and car-owners.

The VL variant in particular comes with keyless entry, push-button start / stop, audio and hands-free phone control along with multiple USB charging and connectivity ports at the centre console. It has black faux leather material seats, leather detailed steering wheel for a reassuring grip on the controls and tilt and telescope steering wheel function to suit a wide array of drivers, in conjunction with the 6-way adjustable front driver’s seat. And as with any modern family car, there are numerous bins and storage spaces throughout the interior and 12 cup holders making it a perfect vehicle for long drives with family and friends in tow.
Power comes from a 1.5-liter double overhead-cam 16-valve engine with variable valve and cam phasing, delivering a maximum output of 105ps and 141 Newton-Meters of torque driving the front wheels via either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic that despite its modest output, is very adequate and delivers a very broad power band. If it’s anything like its Xpander twin, fuel efficiency should be a very achievable 8km/liter city and 12km/liter highway driving.
“The All-New Living is a modern and practical MPV that first time families and first-time car buyers will appreciate and trust. As part of Nissan’s transformation plan, we hope to reach more customers through this exciting offering to this competitive and fast growing segment,” says Juan Manuel Hoyos, Nissan Philippines President.
The All-New Living will be available in five colors: Royal Ruby Red, Moonstone Grey, DIamond Pearl White, Onyx Black and Platinum Silver with the four variants in these prices: VL (A/T) P1,209,000, VE (A/T) P1,149,000, EL (A/T) P1,109,000, E (M/T) 1,029,000. These are covered by Nissan’s five year / 150,000-kilometer warranty for the top-of-the-line variant.
Nissan is also proud to say that they have engineered the Livina to cost as much as 30% less to maintain compared to other available MPVs in the market, making the deal even sweeter.
The All-New Living goes on sale starting Thursday, September 15, 2022 and is available at all 43 of Nissan’s dealerships nationwide.
