Shape of water: Suzuki Philippines launches the all-new Celerio hatchback

Suzuki Philippines has taken the wraps off its small yet highly capable car: the all-new Celerio hatchback. The new Celerio features a strikingly different body, enlarged interior space, and updated connectivity and convenience features to make it highly attractive to those seeking a practical, efficient car for everyday use.

Start with the new body. The all-new Celerio morphs from the boxy body style of the previous generation to a more fluid shape, dubbed “liquid expression.” The styling derives inspiration from the shape of water, resulting in a “three-dimensionally curved surface.” Friendly-looking headlamps flank a smiling grille with the trademark Suzuki “S” highlighted in the middle. The taillights are positioned high on the car’s shoulder line. The rear fenders have a subtle flare to imply stability. The all-new Celerio rides on 15-inch black alloy wheels, up an inch from the previous car’s.

Inside, the Celerio welcomes the driver with its distinctive multi-layered dashboard. In the middle is a 6.2-inch touchscreen audio head unit. The system features Bluetooth, Weblink, and USB connectivity. Supplementary audio controls are on the steering wheel as well.

Celerio promises a larger interior space than its predecessor. The luggage compartment has a 295-liter capacity. The rear seat can split-fold 60:40 to increase cargo space as needed.

Powering the Celerio is the 1.0-liter K10C Dualjet engine, producing 68ps and 89Nm. The engine reportedly has a higher thermal efficiency resulting from a higher compression ratio, dual injection system, and friction reduction technology. The all-new Celerio was rated at a fuel efficiency of 28.25 km/liter in a test run by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP). The Dualject engine features automatic idle stop to further reduce fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. The engine is paired with either a five-speed manual gearbox, or Suzuki’s Auto Gear Shift (AGS) automated manual transmission. AGS features a shift control actuator that automatically operates the shift and clutch, giving greater convenience to manual driving.

Suzuki has built the all-new Celerio on a Total Effective Control Technology body, wich absorbs and disperses collision energy. ABS brakes and Electronic Stability Program actively assist the driver to help keep the Celerio on its intended path. Dual airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, rear parking sensors and hill-hold control provide additional driving safety.
