Motor Image Pilipinas, Inc., the country’s exclusive distributor of Subaru vehicles just announced the introduction of its all-new 2021 Subaru Outback. Aside from being restyled inside and out, it also comes with an all-new 2.5-litre direct injection boxer engine. It is the sixth-generation model and is now built on the Subaru Global Platform, just like all the recently introduced models in the Subaru lineup. This award-winning crossover is known for its sedan-like drivability and the versatility of an SUV, which is the embodiment of the Subaru spirit of adventure.

Fans of the Outback will know that it is reliable and always there for you, taking you on your best journeys, time after time. It has the latest best-in-class safety features and spaciousness usually found in luxury European brands. It will keep you and your loved ones safe and comfortable. It is stable, versatile, and practical, with a touch of luxury. It is a well-equipped high-end car, without the high-end price tag.” said Glenn Tan, Deputy Chairman and Managing Director of Tan Chong International Ltd., which owns Motor Image Pilipinas, Inc.
The all-new Subaru Outback if fitted with the Eyesight 4.0 Driver Assist Technology which is Subaru’s latest version of its award-winning preventive safety system. Subaru says the system’s Pre-Collision Braking designed to be more effective with improved stereo cameras and a wider angle of coverage that gives more traffic scenarios at intersections. The car is now able to help the driver look left and right and detect obstacles and help prevent potential collisions. It gives early detection of vehicles travelling on the opposite direction as well as pedestrians crossing the road.
Its Autonomous Emergency Steering helps steer the Outback away from a vehicle or obstacle in front to avoid an accident. It works in tandem with Subaru’s Rear Vehicle Detection to ensure that the Outback heads towards a clear area (i.e., to the right or left within the lane). Another safety and useful feature is its Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system that now has a Lane Centering Function. In highway driving, it helps to steer the Outback to keep it in the center of the lane, whether the road is straight or even if it is slightly curved. ACC has the added benefit of helping drivers in traffic jams by keeping the new Outback at a safe distance from the vehicle in front, helping the driver slow down or speed up automatically in these situations. Its Lane Departure Warning includes Lane Departure Prevention which nudges the steering wheel slightly back inside the driver’s lane when it detects that the driver is about to cross the line/lane markings while travelling at 60km/h or more.
The Outback is intelligent enough to detect and alert the driver when he or she is looking away from the road with its Driver Monitoring System (DMS) that uses an infra-red camera and facial recognition technology to monitor the driver’s eyes. It also remembers the unique settings of up to five drivers for their seat and door mirror positions, climate control, and meter displays, and automatically adjusts them for each driver upon entering the car.
With the latest Subaru Global Platform, the Outback’s full inner frame structure and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive offers excellent handling and stability. Powering the Outback is an all-new 2.5-liter direct injection boxer engine rated at 188 PS and 245Nm of torque, with an acceleration from 0 to 100km/h in 9.6 seconds. Aside from handling and stability on smooth and well-paved roads, its 213mm ground clearance easily takes on rough roads and features light outer body armoring trims on the wheel wells, bumper and running board that is tastefully styled to look rugged and matches well with the heavy-duty crossbar roof rails. The luggage compartment was also designed to be larger at 537 liters, approximately 10 liters more and a hands-free power rear gate makes cargo loading even more convenient.
The cabin is well spaced to fit 5 adult passengers and with the same 2745mm wheelbase, it comes with a slightly longer overall length (+50mm) and width (+35mm). Inside, Nappa leather is used for the seats which is a first for Subaru, and it comes with extra plush cushioning and premium trim all around, giving the cabin an added look of luxury. At the center is a 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen. The high-definition, tablet-style LCD screen is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto comes with a 576-watt Harman/Kardon premium audio system with 11 speakers, a subwoofer, and an 8-channel amplifier.
There is only one variant available and it’s called the Outback 2.5i-T EyeSight.
