At the 29th Annual Motorsports Awards of the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP), top rally drivers Louie Camacho and John Rey San Diego earned accolades for their performances in 2024. Held at the Celebrity Sports Plaza, the awards night celebrated standout achievements across various motorsport disciplines. Among the most decorated was Louie Camacho, who emerged as one of the evening’s biggest winners. A fixture in both the Philippine Rally and Rallycross Series, Camacho was named 2024 Driver of the Year for both Rally and Rallycross — a rare double recognition that highlights his versatility and dominance on different surfaces.

Camacho also clinched multiple titles in the Philippine Rallycross Championship, topping the overall standings in Group 2 and Group 3, and taking class victories in both the UV and Pickup categories.

“It’s an honor and a blessing to receive this award for the second time,” said Camacho.

“I thank those who helped me and those who have supported the series. If not for you, I would not be here to begin with. I also express my utmost gratitude to AAP for this recognition. Your continued support paves the road for those who love the sport.”

Camacho’s success was backed by several sponsors, including Project O, Zidcar, Jabbre Motocom, Ryzen Helmet, Keon Sondra, Nitto Tires Philippines, Method Race Wheels, Automotive Aesthetics, LG2 Autostation, Bilstein Philippines, Vinyl Frog, Ravenol, Autoplus, ACDelco, B-Spec, Alpha, and Aesthetics Toyota.

Adding to the night’s historic highlights, John Rey San Diego was named the first-ever recipient of AAP’s “Rally Co-Driver of the Year” award, marking a significant moment for rally navigators in the country.

“Never thought that I would be awarded for being a co-driver,” said San Diego.

“Growing up I always followed WRC. I thank the Lord for allowing me to experience the sport that I love with the best seat possible—riding shotgun.”

He also acknowledged the importance of the recognition: “I’m grateful to AAP for recognizing the role of navigators in rallying. It really shows how serious the organization is in making the rally popular once again. I’m especially thankful to my driver, Louie Camacho. If not for his talent behind the wheel, this wouldn’t be possible. It is such an honor to co-drive for one of the most talented dirt drivers in the country.”

The honors received by Camacho and San Diego underscore a growing appreciation for rally sport in the Philippines, driven by passion, talent, and strong community support. With AAP’s continued advocacy and recognition of excellence, the future of local rallying looks more promising than ever.
