Speed limits in portions of NAIAx and Skyway Stage 3 adjusted to 80kph for faster and more efficient travel
Good news for motorists traveling through Ninoy Aquino International Airport Expressway (NAIAx) and Skyway Stage 3 as SMC Infrastructure is finally adjusting the speed limits in these thoroughfares from 60 kph to 80kph, starting today, January 15 and January 20, 2025, respectively.
These new speed limits will particularly be implemented on the long straight sections of these elevated skyway systems after a comprehensive study conducted by experts on the field of traffic safety management.
The increase in speed now promises a more convenient way of travel while still keeping road safety top of mind.
“This change will make travel on NAIAx and Skyway Stage 3 faster and more efficient for everyone,” said SMC chairman and CEO, Ramon S. Ang.
“We have carefully studied this to make sure that it benefits motorists while prioritizing safety,” he added.
According to him, this also complements the ongoing reconfiguration of exit plazas at NAIAx, which should allow for less congestion and help improve motorists’ experience on the expressway.
He–however–emphasized that the 60-kph speed limit will continue to be enforced for all motorists on curved sections of both expressways.
“This is to maintain safety, as we do not want to put any motorists at risk of accidents due to miscalculation or oversteering, especially where there are sharp curves, given the limitations to the design of both the NAIAx and Skyway 3,” he reiterated.
To carefully monitor the flow of traffic in these areas, traffic patrollers equipped with radar speed guns will be strategically stationed along the expressway. Those caught overspeeding will be apprehended by these traffic enforcers deputized by the Land Transportation Office (LTO). Violators will, in turn, surrender their drivers’ licenses and be issued temporary operator’s permits.
Ang then concluded, “We appeal to our motorists to observe speed limits at our expressway facilities for the safety of all.”
