Latest Bentley Bentayga EWB offers the most comfortable interior with innovative and out of the box approach
Bentley Manila has unveiled their latest offering, the Bentayga Extended Wheelbase or EWB. The newest variant is the fruit of a nine-figure investment from the boys at Crewe to deliver the most luxurious cabin since the Bentley Mulsanne executive limousine. Launched in 2015, the EWB which only recently became available now accounts for 40 percent of all Bentayga sales, reflecting the world’s growing preference for go-anywhere executive expresses.
The Bentayga EWB adds a substantial 180 millimeters of length predominantly in the rear door area to deliver a truly first class experience. The Bentayga EWB features standard 4-seater airline seating in Azure specification. The Azure specification is a scientific approach to improve comfort and refinement.
The 4+1 Airline Seat Specification are both cooled and heated, offering maximum relaxation in the rear. Other key features include Seat Auto Climate, Postural Adjustment, additional cushion and backrest bolster adjustment, plus heated rear door and center armrests. The rear seats recline as much as 40 degrees in comfort mode to allow you to sleep better, and goes upright in business mode to let you work efficiently. The seats go beyond the two-dimensional motions typical of adjustable seats because it is able to employ a three-dimensional twist to relieve pressure points that improve comfort the longer you stay inside. Six independent pressure zones can provide 177 adjustments every three hours to ensure that seat comfort is never compromised, regardless of the length of the journey. The front seats, in turn, offer 22 directions of adjustment to give the driver and front passenger maximum comfort regardless of their build / stature.
Because we can lose as much as 30 percent of oxygen intake while seated, the boffins from Crewe set about to create the most comfortable interior with innovative and out of the box approach: “To create the Azure range, we consulted with neuroscientists to understand the inter-relationship of color, texture, tactility and even scent, to create an atmosphere of relaxed serenity,” comments Maria Mulder, head of Color & Trim at Bentley Motors.
“When we see pleasing forms, shapes and colors our brains release chemicals such as dopamine that not only make us feel good but are good for our body and sense of well-being. Sensory receptors convert physical stimuli in neural activity, creating changes in our brain and nervous system. Every fabric, sound, motion, color and touch continuously impacts our nervous system, and the Azure cabin has been finessed accordingly.”
To that end, the Azure interior design specification includes “wellness quilting;” the fractal patterns of precisely crafted diamond quilted upholstery create an eye-pleasing interplay of light and shade and provide an irresistible invitation to explore them with one’s fingertips. And while Bentley customers will always have access to the full range of wood veneers, the Azure range offer a choice of three open pore veneers – Dark Walnut, CrownCut Walnut and Koa, which has a satin, reflective quality evoking a calming mood.
Throughout the cabin, new craftsmanship elements bolster a class-leading interior. The first application of Bentley Dynamic Illumination delivers lighting through handcrafted leather, while finer sewing threads create Bentley’s softest lofted quilt to date. In total, customers can choose from 24 billion trim combinations, which means you it is very highly unlikely that your Bentayga will have a similar example somewhere else in the world. The system goes beyond the two-dimensional motions typical of adjustable seats because it is able to employ a three-dimensional twist to relieve pressure points. Six independent pressure zones can provide 177 adjustments every three hours to ensure that seat comfort is never compromised, regardless of the length of the journey.
Other improvements include a total of 27-percent improvement in secondary noise inside the cabin, giving its occupants a sense of peace and wellness.
Chassis and powertrain refinements, include Electronic All-Wheel Steering, to give the substantial Bentayga agility and maneuverability despite its large footprint. Bentley Dynamic Ride is fitted as standard, showcasing the dynamic range of abilities the Bentayga possesses. Dynamic Ride is the system of active anti-rollbars powered by a 48-volt system which can generate as much as 1,300 Newton-Meters of resistance to the suspension to give better roll control and sharper handling when needed in an instantaneous 0.3 seconds.
Of course, all the exquisite interior accouterments and the impressive footwork require a heart to match, and the Bentayga does not disappoint: Powering the mighty beast is the brand’s twin-scroll twin turbocharged direct-injected gasoline V8 engine producing a heady 550 horsepower and 770 Newton-Meters of torque. Drive is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission that catapults the Bentayga to 100kmh from rest in a scant 4.6 seconds, all the way to an unbelievable (for a large SUV) 290kmh top speed.
