The recent 4×4 Expo held at Parklinks in Quezon City was a success in more ways than one. Aside from the numerous displays and exciting off-road driving demos, the event was also the venue for a special fund raiser. The EPCALM Adult Leukemia Memorial awarded a distinctive watch in an auction to raise funds and awareness for leukemia patients. The Philip Stein Signature Evolution Model 85 was sponsored by the Lucerne Group.

The 4×4 Expo event and EPCALM auctioned off a Philip Stein Signature Evolution watch for ladies. Featuring a special orange rubber strap, as orange is the color of hope and Leukemia Awareness Month, the ladies’ watch combines contemporary style with Philip Stein’s health and wellness technology. The brand’s Natural Frequency Technology works to help keep the wearer’s stress levels down and focus and energy up. Dr. Mario Panaligan placed a winning bid for the watch. Dr. Panaligan bid for the watch because he himself was a leukemia patient and wanted to help others who are facing the same illness. The Department of Health has ranked leukemia as the number four killer (among cancers) in the country.

Alvin Uy, Inquirer Mobility writer and editor of Inquirer Executive Essentials, helped to organize and promote the auction, as this cause is also close to his heart. Mr. Uy is also a co-organizer of the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). In 2015, MIAS hosted two orange supercars: the Jaguar F-Type and Lexus RCF during the event at the World Trade Center. The supercar display aimed to promote EPCALM’s cause of assisting those afflicted with leukemia and to mark the foundation’s then 10th anniversary. Among the 110,000 visitors of MIAS that year were several donors who made contributions and pledged support to the foundation.

EPCALM is an organization dedicated to bring hope and assistance to victims of leukemia and their families. The acronym stands for Erwin Piedad Cabanag Adult Leukemia Memorial. Atty. Erwin P. Cabanag was City Fiscal of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, Philippines when he succumbed to leukemia on May 12, 2005 at the age of 45. At this time, the vision to build the first adult leukemia foundation in the Philippines was born, now known as the EPCALM Adult Leukemia Foundation of the Philippines, Inc.
