Mitsubishi PH to showcase classic cars in 60th anniversary bash at World Trade Center
One of the country’s leading automakers is also the longest staying automotive company, as well. And it’s celebrating a milestone year in grand fashion.
Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) will celebrate its 60th anniversary by staging a single-brand expo this coming August 10 to 13 with a four-day exposition marking six decades of mobility highlighted by 1.2 million units in total sales and also its 800,000th production milestone.
Mitsubishi’s 23-hectare manufacturing plant in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, one of the largest in the country, has an annual production capacity of 50,000 units where it manufactures the Mirage, Mirage G4 and L300 models.

Another significant milestone for MMPC was the recent appointment of Noriaki Hirakata as its first-ever chairman of the board effective this July 1. The strategic appointment reflects MMPC’s stronger commitment to enhancing corporate governance and driving sustainable business growth. As Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) shifts its focus towards the Philippines, it also aims to firm up its mid to long-term business plan for the Philippine market to ensure the continuous success of the brand in the country.
As MMPC Chairman of the Board, Noriaki Hirakata’s main responsibility is to oversee implementation of strategic business plans by the Executive Management Committee in order to further solidify the brand’s position as market leader in the Philippines.
Dubbed as the Mitsubishi Motors Philippines 60th Anniversary Expo, the event will showcase current models, as well as classic car displays, daily performances and activities designed for the whole family to enjoy and participate. Among the highlights of the expo are its two concept cars specially brought in for the anniversary celebration.

Aside from the classic and current model lineup, one of the highlights, or rather two of the highlights of this event are the concept cars brought in specially for the anniversary month. These are the Mitsubishi XFC Concept, which is a design concept of the next 5-seater SUV and the Mitsubishi XRT Concept, which is the platform for the next-generation pick-up truck.

For its heritage showcase, a well-curated collection of classic Mitsubishi cars that shaped the landscape of the local car scene that endeared the brand which includes the following cars by order of their year models: a 1975 Minica, 1976 Lancer 2-door coupe more commonly known as the “L-type” because of its distinctive L-shaped taillights, a 1976 Galant wagon, a 1987 Lancer GT more known as the “boxtype” because of its boxy design, a 1995 Lancer Evolution 3 which represents the golden years of Mitsubishi’s rally days and a very rare 1 out of 100 locally-assembled 1999 2nd generation Pajero Fieldmaster in 4×4 manual transmission, just to name a few.
These specially selected models have defined the various genres of Mitsubishi over the last few decades, from the oil-crisis years in the early 70s, to the World Rally Championship years in the late 70s, to the early 80s that served as the catapult to the brand’s dominance in rally racing in the 1990s, to the off-roading days of Paris-Dakar represented by the mighty Pajero.

According to Mitsubishi, visitors will get to experience first-hand its current product line-up with two kinds of two test drive opportunities. Customers can either test drive units on the normal road on the streets, or they can enjoy the obstacle test drive tracks specifically laid out inside the premises of the World Trade Center.
Mitsubishi car clubs are also expected to gather in the event and all Mitsubishi car club members can avail of free check-up at the designated booth which will also be open for all Mitsubishi car owners. There will also be everyday live performances from various Filipino artists. The event will be open to the public from August 10 to 13, 2023, starting 10 am until 9 pm, and admission is free.
