After a two-year hiatus, the Singapore Grand Prix (SGP) is back. The roar of Formula 1 (F1) cars will once again echo off the buildings and grandstands of the Marina Bay Circuit on September 30 to October 2, 2022.
Expect the battle between F1 championship leaders Max Verstappen of Red Bull and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc to heat up further as they go wheel to wheel on the tight, twisty street circuit. The other F1 drivers are likewise highly determined to take the checkered flag, including their teammates Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez, as well as Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, Lando Norris, and Fernando Alonso.

It sounded incredible way back in 2008 when Singapore first announced an F1 race—not just because the densely-packed streets would be converted to a road course, but also because for the first time, F1 would be run at night. With the track brightly lit by floodlights, the racing atmosphere proved electric. The cars’ striking livery looks otherworldly against the backdrop of the Lion City’s landmark buildings. Nighttime also makes for a more comfortable trackside experience when compared to the usually searing heat of a Singapore afternoon.
The excitement of the race is matched by the world-class entertainment acts that precede and follow the main event. This year, the Padang Stage within the Marina Bay circuit will host some stellar entertainment acts. Black Eyes Peas, one of the best-selling acts of all time, will be performing hits like “Where Is The Love,” and “I Got a Feeling.” The group has won six Grammy Awards including Record of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal. Marshmello, the famed masked artist will perform some of his chart-topping music. Westlife, one of the most successful boy bands of all time, will play their hits, including “Swear It Again,” “Flying Without Wings,” and “If I Let You Go.” American punk group Green Day will rock the Padang Stage with their number-one hit singles including “American Idiot,” “Good Riddance,” and “Wake Me Up When September Ends.” TLC will be bringing their CrazySexyCool act including songs like “Waterfalls,” “No Scrubs,” and “Unpretty.” Malaysian rock legends Wings has also joined the entertainment lineup.

This year’s Singapore Grand Prix is sponsored by Singapore Airlines, which has extended its support for the event for three more years. Singapore GP Pte Ltd and the Singapore Tourism Board have announced that the city will host an F1 race for another seven years, from 2022 to 2028.
