How the Covid-19 pandemic has affected auto industry leaders
By Masahiko Nakamura, President, Honda Cars Philippines Inc
“As we end the year and as the country eases its way back to a more normal setup, we look back at the biggest lessons we have all learned from the pandemic.
First, and the most important, people come first. Somehow, the pandemic gave a very strong reminder of what we have always known—that the safety and welfare of our families, our associates, our customers, and every person in our community are the most important. The innovations we desire and work hard for are meant to enrich lives and must serve the fundamental human need for safety. We have also gained a better appreciation of the value of community, and positive mindset among team members so that we can support one another to overcome adversities. Of course, technology came handy, and we are most grateful for people-centric technologies that connected us in our personal lives and at work. In this light, Honda’s mantra to keep challenging to bring more joy to people’s lives became more relevant for all Honda associates and business partners. We have been reminded many times over that we must never give up, not only for ourselves, but for the people around us, young and old, we must and we can embrace, anticipate and create meaningful change to really thrive. After being quarantined for some time, how we yearn to never again be kept from the joy and freedom of mobility.”
